A wise word about the Exterior project in the South West London area. Many clients asking me to give advice when doing the exterior project. Realistically it is all about the weather – for Mi Decor I do usually exteriors from May to September, sometimes October. Weather factors are crucial – mainly because autumn/winter and spring are wet, humid, the temperature is low and there are not so many sunny days to dry off the painted surface. Days are shorter, temperatures dropping below zero, not to even mention mist, fog and often showers.
Paint and decorating products have data specification to use and work above 10 degrees – they are tested in a laboratory environment where moisture factors and the temperature is measured. Moisture and temperature are even and kept at the same level – based on that we know if there is below 10 degrees Celsius and it is wet, paint/materials will not adhere, dry and work properly.
Another point is that if the surface that needs to be painted is dry enough? has water evaporated properly? – we have now moisture meters to check accurate moisture factors. It will not matter if we can see surface dry, when we touch and feel dry with moisture meter we can be accurate and almost sure surface is ready or not to be decorated. Also, lovely English weather is not something that we can control, we can check the various weather forecasts in radio, apps, online – but even that will not give you guarantee that quick shower is just at the corner and that it will wash out brand new gloss topcoat or masonry walls – yes, that happened to Mi Decor a couple of times and that creates heart braking situation.
The exterior is never easy and always challenging – you never know what is under paint if previous tradesmen did a proper job or he just refreshed it. I am very passionate and lucky to do amazing properties, bringing it back to glory a very old and crafted wood and masonry element. Mi Decor can repair and restore them for future generations.
